Nutritional interventions for patients with brain injuries and movement limitations
Kadečková, Klára ; Sládková, Petra (advisor) ; Svěcená, Kateřina (referee)
Patients with acquired brain damage, who are attending rehabilitation day-care center on the Department of Rehabilitation Medicine of the General Hospital and the First Medical Faculty of Charles University in Prague, are often limited by fatigue and lack of energy. Patients are attending day hospital mainly with brain damage acquired after stroke and less often also after brain trauma. Secondary prevention of atherosclerosis development or progression and prevention of stroke relapse is very important with these patients. Nutritional intervention plays significant role in prevention and treatment of many risk factors of an atherosclerotic artery damage. Common consequence of brain damage is development of secondary sarcopenia. Patient in day hospital must bring their own food. Individualized program as a result from examination by the multidisciplinary team doesn't include nutritional assessment. Study with patients with acquired brain damage was carried out on Department of Rehabilitation. Study used bioelectrical impedance analysis provided by InBody 370 S. Body composition of patients was measured. This data and anthropometric measurements were evaluated for presence of metabolic and cardiovascular disease risk factors. Muscle mass percentage was evaluated as well. Study found out that most...

Šimsa, Jáchym ; Sýkora, Karel (advisor) ; Vokounová, Šárka (referee)
Title: Anthropometric factors of Czech artillery soldiers Objectives: The aim of this paper is to evaluate somatotype and body composition of Czech artillery soldiers. It compares three different methods of determining body fat and searches for an easily measurable and reliable predictor of low bone density, whereas evaluating correlations between selected anthropometric factors. Methods: Members of the 13th Artillery Regiment Jince were divided into three groups according to their classification, after which a stratified selection was used to maintain appropriate ratio of the groups. The study involved 189 men and 20 women (age 31.7 ± 6.4 years; height 178.4 ± 7.7 cm; weight 83.8 ± 13.6 kg). All participants were active professional soldiers at the time of the measurement. The data were obtained in the Jince Military Base and in the biomedical laboratory at the Faculty of Physical Education and Sports of Charles University. Each volunteer underwent four procedures - Heath- Carter somatotyping, Durnin-Womersley body fat estimation, a detailed bioelectrical impedance analysis (BIA) using Tanita MC-980, and a full-body dual-energy X-ray absorptiometry (DXA) using Horizon System. To determine mutual relations, Kendall rank correlation coefficient was used and the level of significance was set at p =...

Keywords: strength training, maximal strength, nutrition, BIA
The effect of a two-month reducing and exercise training programme on the change of body fat of adults.
Klimentová, Andrea ; Vacková, Blanka (advisor) ; Sedlak, Petr (referee)
The main objective of my thesis was evaluate the two-month motion reduction program by determining changes in body fat of fitness clients. The study included a total of 61 persons from that 29 men and 32 women. Used were basic anthropometric methods - calliperation method and calculation of percent body fat according to Pařízková, bioelectric impedance BIA, calculating the percentage of body fat according to Deurenberg and BMI. The study foresees reduction program success (reduction in body weight, body fat and BMI values for all participants of the investigation file), the possibility of using regression equations establishing the percentage of body fat in terms of fitness, improvement of physical and mental well-being of clients and increasing the motivation for the next sport activities. Keywords: body fat, %fat Pařízková, %fat Deurenberg, BIA, BMI

Title: Changes in body composition in the development of maximum force Objectives: The aim of this work was to create functional strength development of maximum strength of his subsequent application. During interventions were performed measurements of body composition, where we observed change of each selected component due to the application of physical intervention and then evaluated their significance with respect to the target. Furthermore, we monitor changes in maximal strength by setting the repetition maximum in selected exercises. Methods: We used the work of the body composition measuring apparatus using the BIA 2000 (data input, Frankfurt nad Mohanom, Germany) and used by the software measurement somatotype Antropo 2000.2 Results: The work confirmed the hypothesis about a significant change in the values of total body water, body fat percentage and values of ECM / BCM due adapted physical intervention with the primary objective of developing maximal strength. Comparison of selected anthropometric parameters of competitive quadrathletes and racing kayakers.
Gerčáková, Daniela ; Bílý, Milan (advisor) ; Kovářová, Lenka (referee)
Title: Comparison of selected anthropometric parameters of competitive quadrathletes and racing kayakers. Objectives: The aim of this work is to assess the somatotype and anthropometric characteristics in elite athletes in marathon kayakers and quadrathletes. Methods: This research included the analysis and comparison of two groups of athletes. Using the Heath-Carter system of measurement, somatotypes were calculated using the computer formula, 'Somatotype - Calculation and Analysis'. Body composition was determined through the use of skinfold calipers SK in conjunction with noninvasive bioelectrical impedance analysis (BIA). Specifically, the Tanita 980 MS and BIA 2000 measurement units. Results: Two research samples were developed (speed kayakers as one, quadrathletes as the other), whose results (set average) were compared. On the basis of anthropometric data and calculations, it was found that both research samples corresponded in their somatotype category, ectomorphic mesomorph. According to this research, the speed kayakers (with a focus on marathon distances), are generally taller and heavier than the quadrathlete sample, yet had relatively less body fat. Keywords: Somatotype, body composition, BIA, skinfold, quadrathlon, flatwater kayaking
The nitrogen balance evaluation at ventilated polytrauma patients in ICU.
Slováková, Tereza ; Hronek, Miloslav (advisor) ; Kovařík, Miroslav (referee)
The aim of this study was to evaluate the influence of nutritional support on energy expenditure and nutritional substrates oxidation, focused on proteins and nitrogen balance, in ventilated polytraumatized patients hospitalized in the intensive care unit. The study was performed on 15 critically ill patients (12 men and 3 women), their average age was 43,6 ± 17,5 years. 7 patients were examinated without nutritional support, 8 patients were examinated after administration of hypocaloric nutritional support. The examination of fasting patients was conducted after at least 4 hours of fasting. The examination of patients with nutritional support were conducted after at least 4 hours of nutritional support administration. Energy expenditure, resting energy expenditure and nutritional substrates oxidation were measured by indirect calorimetry. After statistical analysis of measured data was found, that administration of hypocaloric nutritional support did not significantly influence nutritional substrates oxidation. Protein intake correlated with total nitrogen balance (p = 0,0133) and muscular condition. Results suggest, that administered proteins were partly used as source of energy instead of muscle protein and partly used a different way, e.g. for tissue reparation. Therefore, nutritional support...

Bioimpedance analysis of body fluids during pregnancy.
Najpaverová, Simona ; Hronek, Miloslav (advisor) ; Kovařík, Miroslav (referee)
The aim of this work was to process opportunities of bioelectrical impedance analysis (BIA) for determination body composition of pregnant women. There is quite small findings about this issue, so it was an effort to prove the usefulness of the BIA method during pregnancy and than to clarified the changes of body metabolism in women during pregnancy. The study included 10 pregnant, primipara, women with a physiological pregnancy. The screening was performed by the method of bioimpedance analysis of body composition, which records the amount of water, muscle and fat mass in the body. The measured values recorded an increase in mass of all examined women on average of 13.4 ± 4.1 kg. Our results also recorded progressive increase in the amount of total body water (TBW), extracellular water (ECW) and intracellular water (ICW) especially during the last trimester of pregnancy. The results analysis showed the tightest correlation between the values of Re and ratio of TBW P/h2 (p = 1,23*10-20 ; r = -0,98057) and of Ri and ratio of ICW P/h2 (p = 4,52*10-20 ; r = -0,97859), too. The evaluation of measurements between the first and third trimester has shown statistically significant difference in values Xc/waist. It has been shown that using the BIA method is justified in period of pregnancy and it is...
